OOH Exotic Rescue Ranch

Non-profit Exotic Animal Rescue Ranch

Like any great Texas Ranch story. Opio Oaks came about from the purchase of a lil ole ranch down in Kenedy. In 2008, Vic & Laverne Opio bought a run-down ranch from the local Pharmacist and his wife; Franklin & Doris Young. The couple were in their 90's and though they had children, none of them wanted the land and house built in the '50's. Kenedy is a sleepy little town with a population of only 3500. After buying the ranch, we named it LaViTa Ranch. A concatination of my wife Laverne, and daughter's Victoria and Anestacia.

The first animals I bought were a pair of llamas named Lorenzo & Dolly Llama. I later bought 3 donkey jacks. Then some cows Pierre, Danny, Big Tex & Baby Tex, and Wilda.

Years after now, I still have Pierre, and Baby Tex. Some animals died and others I sold at the livestock auction.

In 2011, the Eagleford Shale oil boom was moving into the area. Once my neighbor sold his house to an oil servicing company, they area just wasn't the same. Instead, the new owners were using his unpaved road as a yard, kicking up dust that was ruining my new house paint. Well, long story short we sold LaViTa ranch in April 2011 and have been happy at OPIO OAKS Hacienda ever since. Today we raise the following animals on the 25 acre ranch.

  • Llamas
  • Chickens
  • Ducks
  • Turkeys
  • Emus
  • Horses
  • Cattle
  • American Bison
  • Zebras
  • Nigerian Pygmy Goats
  • Catahoulas

Being that we have so many critters to feed, we started selling a little hay to earn a little animal rescue money. We love our animals and always will. If you would like to tour that ranch and donate to our animal rescue fund, just send us an e-mail or call. We are pretty flexible since we live here. Thanks for reading.

In April 2017, we decided to apply for our 501(C)3 non-profit agency status for Opio Oaks Hacienda. Our focus is to:

  • Rescue exotic animals
  • Rehabilitate our animals
  • Rehome our animals
